2006 Art Contest Winners

CLICK ART WINNERS

It’s time to smile and take a closer look at the “Click Art” Exhibit at the new River Region Art Gallery in Gonzales located just off Airline Hwy behind Domino’s Pizza as you enter Gonzales from the Prairieville side. This photography show was judged by Suzette Rosher , professional art photographer. Presented by River Region Art Association and the Parish of Ascension Recreation and Culture, the competition, open to the community, involved over 60 entries. The winners are listed below:

March into Art Winners 2006

What wonderful talent we have in our young people! The March into Art Exhibit at River Region Art Gallery in Gonzales is a prime example of the future of art. Winning ribbons and cash prizes were announced at the Art Gumbo Market on March 11. The artworks will remain on exhibit at the RRAA Gallery until the end of March. The Gallery is open Tuesday-Saturday from 10-4 PM for viewing.

River Region Art Association announces the winners of the “Blues Clues” Community Art Exhibit as judged by artist/instructor, Kitty McGarr , Baton Rouge. In the painting and 3-dimensional division: 1st, Linda Coffman,”Blue Vases”; 2nd, Louise Hansen, “Blue Door”; 3rd, Melanie Giroir, “African Crown Crane”; Three Honorable Mentions: Sally Mc Connell, “Cross Plate”; Roger Smith, “Women”; & Carolyn Lantz, “Blue Bottle”.

The “BLUES” will be hanging in the RRAA Gallery until April 29. The Gallery is located in Gonzales just off Airline Hwy at 1835 N Magnolia Ave.  Turn off Airline at W. Pine St...by St. Joseph Gift Shop and right onto Magnolia.   Gallery hours for viewing are Tuesday - Saturday from 10 am - 4 pm.

Artists Show Their Faces

Several Artists showed their faces for the challenge of “Let’s Face It!”, the Community Theme Art Exhibit for July at River Region Art Gallery in Gonzales.  Judging was artist, Teddi Ruiz, of Baton Rouge and the winners are: 

 

Paintings & Drawings:  1st Place... Gary Noel for “In His Image” , an intriguing portrait in acrylics. 2nd place, Doris Cowan for “Virgin Faces” a kaleidoscope watercolor. 3rd place, Jessie Bourgoyne with  “Harry Potter”  in watercolor.  Honorable Mention : Louise Hansen for “Samantha at Rosedown” and Mary Crochet for “Rose Angel”

 

In the Photography Division : 1st place...Donna Braud  for “I Could Use a Good Massage”; 2nd place...Chris Dore‘ fpr ”Gargoyle at the Audubon Zoo”; 3rd place... Misty Corcoran for “Bashful Innocents“; Honorable Mention, Donna Smith for “Chillin”.

Southern Folks & Family Fun Winners

Winners of the Southern Folks and Family Fun community Art exhibit for August as judged by Rene Fletcher will be on display at River Region Art Gallery in Gonzales until the end of the month.  Painting/Drawing Division winners are: 1st   Diane Boudreaux for “Midnight Boogie”;  2nd  Mary Crochet for “The Family”; 3rd Doris Cowan for “Dodging the Bait”; Honorable Mention, Diaine Boudreaux for “Touring Bayou Sagnette”.

Awesome Art Winners
The Gardens of Houmas House were sprinkled with art, music, dance, and sunshine the weekend of Oct 14 & 15 until the rains came on late Sunday of the Awesome Art in Autumn Gardens Show to send people scurrying for their cars. The volunteer artists of River Region Art Association in Gonzales presented this art event with the Decentralized Grant Funding from the Louisiana Division of the Arts and the Baton Rouge Arts Council. The Parish of Ascension Recreation & Culture, businesses in the Ascension area, and several Friends of the Arts supported this community program highlighting the talent in Louisiana of both fine art, folk art, and the performing arts. Thanks to Kevin Kelly, owner of Houmas House for providing the venue for this Show of Awesome Louisiana Artists.

Halloween Art Harvest Day

River Region Art Association and Parish of Ascension Recreation & Culture (PARC) presented a Halloween Art Harvest Day at the RRAA Gonzales Gallery on Sat, Oct 28. There were Halloween themed games scattered around the grounds with art centers for designing and painting unique creations.  

 Winners of the Pumpkin Decorating Contest were :  1st Greatest Pumpkin...Spencer Smith age 11 of Dutchtown Middle School; 2nd Greater Pumpkin...Madeline Bush, age 10 of Parkview Elementary; 3rd Great Pumpkin...Emily Bush, age 4 of Parkview Elementary. 

Funniest Costumes were:  Gabrielle Lott age 5 of Lake Elementary; Caleb Bush, age 9 of Parkview Elementary; and Sarah Borycki, age 12 of Lake Middle School. 

Most Creative Costume:  Emily Bush, age 4 of Parkview Elementary; Savannah Lott, age 9, of Lake ELementary, and Ethan Smith, age 10 of Duplessis Primary. 

This program was organized by the volunteer artists of River Region Art Association with a goal to bring community, children and culture all together. The Halloween Art Harvest was held in conjunction with 2006 Make A Difference Day, a national day of volunteering celebrated every October.

River Region Art Gallery announces the winners of the November Community Theme Exhibit titled “Fruit, Flowers, and a Few Nuts”. Most entries were flowers with a few fruits mixed in here and there.
