Artist
Donna Braud of Geismar is a retired energy auditor from Entergy and former elementary schoolteacher, mother of 10 and grandmother of 15. Writing has always been an important part of her life. Because of her fondness for the art of the written word, she volunteered in 1999 to print the monthly newsletter and do the press releases for the River Region Art Association as well as volunteer to work in the Gallery. She initiated "Art on the Front Porch" to bring free art experiences into Ascension Parish through a grant from the Louisiana Division of the Arts and the Baton Rouge Decentralized Arts Funding Program. Donna enjoys helping and working with the artists as well as developing programs to enhance art in her community. She and her late husband , Harry, worked together to obtain a grant from the Ascension PARC Commission for River Region Art Association to represent the ARTS as an alternative recreation for the community. With a passion for the arts, she volunteers many hours to develop more art opportunities for Ascension Parish. She is a believer of celebrating all creativity and finds it a challenge to discover it in the community she lives in...Ascension Parish. Donna presently does the media reporting for the Art Association and continues to write grants and coordinate the Public Relations for the RRAA Gallery. She has written and performed several puppet shows, helped teach summer art workshops for children and is continuing to expand her skills with hand built pottery, ceramic masks, photography, and painting. Her art, she states, is an expression of her zest for life! She believes the title of your art is important. Art needs a good name to help tell a story. When painting, she always writes her title first , even before sketching. Second, she creates her ideas in her head and then finally takes the paint and brushes to complete the artwork on the canvas.
