About the Artist
Sharing My Passion as a Photographer:
A photographer is an artist who sees the world in a different way and uses the camera as a tool to capture an image in order to bring feeling and drama to something that others may overlook as ordinary.
Photography and art have been a passion of mine since childhood! Having grown up and lived in New Orleans and the surrounding areas all my life, what a blessing I have had to be able to work with such a variety of beautiful and unique landscapes and architecture right in my “backyard” - truly a photographer’s dream!
The camera is simply the tool the photographer uses to see, compose and capture the beauty God has created.
My love for photography and the arts has flourished over the years from taking art lessons at a very young age, to auditioning and entering the New Orleans Center for Creative Arts and studying at the New Orleans Museum of Art in my high school years, to graduating from the Photography Institute in New York and beginning a never ending journey of studying under Master photographers, attending seminars and workshops and striving always to further develop my skills as a photographer. I was a serious amateur photographer since my teenage years, grew into doing freelance work in street photography, professional legal photography, and then moved into focusing more on the art of photography by creating artistic photographs that evolve into works of art. My love for photography doesn’t stop there. Since I was never able to see myself as fitting into only one area of photography, I began photographing special occasions and weddings for friends and family. Eventually, with the incredible support of my husband Jeff, we opened Nothing Like The South photography studio and now have a full fine art collection of photography and offer my gift of photography in capturing those special moments in people’s lives!
Love the quote from Ansel Adams: “You don’t take a photograph, you make it.”
My family has been gifted in the arts. My great grandfather, Joseph Aiena, was a New Orleans artist who created the map “Plantations on the Mississippi River from Natchez to New Orleans” that is found in many venues across the south, designed artwork for Jax Brewery, Morton Salt - and so much more. Through the years I witnessed my father and siblings displaying many of the inherited artistic abilities. My gift and love is photography and using the camera as a tool to capture the beauty God has created. I feel truly blessed to have won numerous awards for many of my photographs and to have captured so many timeless memories for so many wonderful people. Thank you for allowing me to share my gift of photography with you! Donna Marie Montagino Nothing Like The South Fine Art Photography Website: www.nothinglikethesouth.com
