Doris Cowan
Batiking Artist
About the Artist
A native of Belle Rose, Louisiana, Doris Boudreaux Cowan, Cajun,
studied with many national artists, she was employed at East Jefferson
Hospital for twenty years as a nurse.
Coming to New Orleans in 1948, she studied art with Al Federico and
in workshops with Robert Woods, Judi Betts, Tony Couch, Jeanne Dobie,
Milford Zornes and Pat Deadman.
Proficient in batiking, as well as painting in oils, water color and
acrylics, she has taught painting in her Metairie Studio.
She is a board member of New Orleans Art Association, Le Petit Art
Guild, Westbank Art Guild, St. Charles Art Guild, River Region Art Guild, is
a member of Louisiana Water Color Society, Penn Women of America, and is a
charter member of the Jefferson Art Guild.
She is represented by the Rivertown Art Gallery in Kenner, La.,
Cameron Jones Shop on Magazine Street in New Orleans La., The River Region
Art Gallery in Sorrento, La and the Loft Studio Gallery in Bay St. Louis,
Miss.. Her paintings can also be found in corporate and private collections
around the world.
She has exhibited widely and is winner of over 100 awards in juried
shows.
The artist has traveled extensively, painting in almost all the
states, and Hawaii as well as Europe and Mexico. She also freelances from
her studio at
