Frances Prestridge JULY ARTIST-OF-THE-MONTHArtist of the Month Frances Prestridge has been selected Artist of the Month for River Region Art Association. She will display her sculptures at the River Region Art Gallery now located at Houmas House Plantation Gift Shop on the River Road in Darrow. Frances also paints with oils but prefers sculpting with clay.
Frances is a full-time Nurse at Imperial Sugar's Colonial Sugar Refinery in Gramercy, Louisiana. In her spare time, she enjoys sculpting, reading, and collecting antique dolls. She studied oil painting with Teddy Ruiz for several years when she began her interest in the arts in the 1980's. She is very proficient in landscape oils and also enjoys sketching in pencil. Frances began taking sculpting lessons in 2004 from Gene Spann in Baton Rouge. After three years she realized that clay was her medium and now she specializes in sculpting heads of humans and animals. She especially likes creating historical heads of Native American Indians and Asian people because they have so much emotion in their faces.
She won 2nd place in the 2008 Three dimensional competition at Awesome Art at Houmas House. Frances is a member of the River Region Art Association. Her sculptures will be on display at the River Region Art Gallery daily from 10am-5pm at Houmas House until July 31. Take I-10 exit 179 onto Hwy 44, turn right at the River Road (#972).
