MIMI FOWLER
Mimi’s interest in
photography goes back to her childhood when her father, Baton Rouge
architect Richard Murrell surrounded the family with his camera
activity. Her professional career has been as a Respiratory Therapist,
but photography was never far from view. In 1989 she enrolled in the
A.E.W. School of Photography where she earned a degree in 19993. While
a student, she successfully showed her photographs at the LSU School of
Veterinary Medicine Annual Exhibition.
From her first juried show,
acceptance at the Baton Rouge Gallery in 1991, Mimi has maintained a
consistent level of photographic quality. She won the International
Night Photography Competition First Place Award in 1995 at Images
Gallery. The Photographer’s Gallery is but another example of her
established creativity. She participated in many group exhibitions such
as the Louisiana Photographic Society with distinction. Not being one
to accept conditions without question, Mimi began experimenting with
Polaroid color transfer film and developed her own style of images which
she named “Squiggles”. She also attended a workshop featuring Jill
Enfield who taught a class in alternative processing of photographs.
Mimi’s interests have also
turned to jewelry making and painting, in addition to her photography.
She credits her introduction to Oils to Linda Coffman, a well known
Baton Rouge artist. She also dabbles a little in watercolor.
In addition to being a
member of River Region Art Association, Mimi is also a member of the St.
Tammany Art Association in Covington, LA, the Louisiana Photographic
Society and the Humane Society of America.
Mimi lives in Baton Rouge,
surrounded by wonderful children, grandchildren, friends, dogs and
cats. She can be contacted at 225-281-7649 home, 819-2001 cell or by
