Sally was born and raised in Columbus
Ohio until the age of 22 when she married an Air Force
Sergeant and moved to Europe where she lived in Germany
and England for eight years. She then settled in
Louisiana. Sally attended Ohio State University, majored
in Art and later went back to college at LSU where she
received her Bachelors and Masters degrees in Education.
Sally has been an artist in "hiding"
all her life, but was able to return to it, after the
death of her son through gardening and photography.
After teaching science for 25 years, Sally is inspired
by nature. She enjoys photography and gardening. She is
a member of the Retired Teacher’s Association, the
Gonzales Garden Club and the Potter’s Council.
Sally works with stoneware clay and
enjoys hand building the most. She feels that pottery is
such a wonderful outlet for her, giving her time alone
to create and allowing her to share with others her love
of pottery. The pottery she creates is meant to be
functional and used by people to enjoy.
Sally’s inspiration comes from her
friend and partner (Joan Beselman) who talked her into
going to classes with her. For over 2 years she and Joan
attended pottery classes regularly. Sadly, Joan passed
away in 2002. Yet her spirit continues to fill Sally’s
studio. In Joan’s memory she makes crosses and donates
her pieces to local churches and schools for their
auctions.
Sally can provide practical hand made
pieces that not only are useful but beautiful, too. She
